Mazatlán Outreach

Mexico

We are John and Phyllis (aka Liz) Hartman of Lenexa, KS.  We are desiring to mimic Abraham and Moses in continuing Kingdom work into our later years.  We were married in 1965 which could give you info to roughly extrapolate our ages.  We have been members of a large SBC church in Lenexa for about 20 years.  We met at Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS.

Liz has taught elementary/middle school for about 20 years in greatly varied situations. These chronologically go from teaching a 3rd/4th grade class in Manhattan, KS (while John was in grad school); English at Enaboishu Secondary School near Arusha, TZ; 2nd grade at Childrens' International School of Zaria, Nigeria; House parent at Hillcrest Boarding School in Jos, Nigeria; Kindergarten and 2nd grade in Shawnee Mission School District in Kansas; 2nd grade at Whitefield Christian School in Kansas City, Speech and Language pre-school teacher in Desoto (KS) School District.

John taught math at Ilboru Secondary School near Arusha, TZ; math at Albuquerque Academy; Math and physics at McAlester (OK) High School;  Math at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria;  House parent at Hillcrest Boarding School in Jos, Nigeria; Information Technology Dept at City of Overland Park (KS) for 28 years and then retired in 2006.

For the 2008-2009 school year we both taught at the Christian International School of Prague under the auspices of Global Scholars.  We returned to Prague to do some temporary teaching in 2009 and 2010.

In 2011 we joined Mission Nannys (missionNannys.org) and have traveled the world on short term teaching assignments for missionary families. We have helped homeschool missionary children from first grade to high school seniors in Alaska, Albania, Jordan, and Mexico (three times.). We have also worked twice tutoring and helping young South Africans with their school assignments,

We continue to look for opportunities to help missionary families around the world.

We will homeschool the two Sanchez children so so that Mike and Lizanne will have more time to devote to their mission.  Their immediate goal is gain credibility and contacts in Mazatlan.  Currently they are working with several churches, YWAM, Shoulder to Shoulder, and La Vina.  Their long term goal is to present Marriage Seminars to improve family life in The area.

Our Strategy

While living in Nigeria in 1977-1979 our greatest obstacle was finding appropriate schooling for our two children.  Now that we are able our goal is to make it easier for Christian Missionaries to remain on the field and be more effective by relieving them of the time consuming, yet very important, task of providing a good education for their children.  By providing the homeschooling for their children, the parents are better able to pursue their mission Kingdom calling.

How To Partner With Us

We covet your prayers for our health and effectiveness as homeschool tutors and role models for the families we partner with.  Through The Sending Project we now have a convenient way for anyone who so desires to contribute finanancially to the living and travel expenses that we incur while abroad on our adventures in the Kingdom.  We are normally self-funded on our Kingdom adventures but any financial help would be greatly appreciated.
